Britax Car Seat: Britax USA Boulevard ClickTight Convertible Car Seat, Circa Reviews

Our 7th Britax seat, and certainly won’t be the last! (By KAP1022)

This is the 7th Britax seat we’ve purchased over the years for our 5 children. We’ve had our 2 year old in the Boulevard 70-G3 since birth and have loved it, so when the clicktight seats hit the market AND we were expecting another child, we were very interested.

I hemmed and hawed over this purchase for months because of the significant increase in price over the non-CT models, after the recall earlier this year, and after reading review after review with various complaints. I was mostly concerned about the complaints of the short crotch buckle/thigh digging issues. My 9 month old is a big boy with serious thighs! I’m so glad we went ahead with this seat, it really is wonderful, and our little fella loves it, squishy thighs and all.

I did have to move the crotch buckle to the outmost position, and I wonder if this may help some of the other reviewers issues? I’ve provided a photo of my 27lb 2 yr old in his Boulevard 70-G3 vs. my 23lb 9 month old in his Boulevard CT. I hope it helps anyone wishing to compare or who is milling around making the choice.

The CT technology is so wonderful, it makes your install simple and foolproof, and this included with all the other features I’ve loved about the other Britax seats we’ve had. I also really love the newer fabric on this seat. Several of our older seats have almost a velour fabric, which is nice, but it does fade in the sun and the improved (in my opinion) on the CT seats seems like it will be cooler, wipe off nicely, and won’t be prone to snagging. This thing *is* a beast though, I didn’t weigh it, but I’d guess it’s over 40lbs, so some people might need some help to hoist it up depending on their car/size. That is really the only drawback we’ve found so far.

Simple install and excellent protection! (By Big Dawg)

This is our 3rd Britax Boulevard, our previous 2 had the standard anchor attachment which works perfectly well but very difficult to install. The newer seat also has a higher quality material on the sides, feels more breathable than the original. The ClickTight technology makes install so much easier, just press the red button in the middle of the seat, turn, lift the seat and attach the seatbelt. This will make it easier for my wife to install, but its still too heavy for her to carry around.

The Boulevard is slightly lighter in weight than the Advocate which have as an extra side impact protection, but the overall seat design and comfort is the same on both seats, they look pretty much identical if not for the fatter outer shell on the Advocate. If you have a tight back seat, this might be a decision maker. The Britax brand does cost a bit more than the other brands, but they do make high quality car seats and strollers, you can’t go wrong with this Boulevard or Advocate models.

Attaching the Boulevard and the Advocate, see the difference for yourself.

Only good for VERY small kids and toddlers; Major buckle issue. (By JSSF)

Great product all around with one HUGE exception. The crotch strap is WAY to short. We have early versions of the Boulevard and the new crotch strap is dramatically shorter, thus the side of the buckle project right into my kids legs. They are 3 and 5 and both complain about them. One refuses to sit in the seats because it hurts so much. I called Britax and they do NOT have longer straps to send, only padding to deal with this issue. I can tell you right now, padding won’t help. In my opinion this seat is only good for infants and toddlers whose legs are so thin that they are not yet impacted by the height of buckle system. Very disappointing as we are happy and loyal Britax customers.

Tip re: Click-Tight (By H. Ryan)

Have not had this seat long, but love it so far. Super comfy for my daughter and I feel that she is really well-protected.

Quick tip regarding the click-tight, which I didn’t feel was clear in the manual: don’t over-tighten the seat belt or latch belt!

If you are coming from any other type of seat, you’re probably used to threading the belt and then pulling as hard as possible to get that sucker tight enough. The way the ClickTight is designed to work, is the frame puts extra pressure on the belt as it closes, creating that tension for you. The first time I tried to install, I saw right away why other reviewers have had issues with getting the seat to open back up again (even having to resort to pliers). If the belt is too tight, you have to force the seat closed and then it is nearly impossible to open again. What worked best for me was to just thread the belt through, removing any slack but not pulling it taut. Then close the seat – it should close with one firm push, you shouldn’t have to force it – if you’re struggling, try actually LOOSENING the belt a little. Once closed, THEN do the wiggle test and hopefully it should be rock solid. I’m really satisfied with the system, and hope that tip helps other people like it better, too!

I definitely recommend Britax to everyone (By Jasper Rodgers)

I bought a Britax boulvard for my toddler son last year when I found out I was expecting again there was no doubt in my mind I was going to skip the infant seat and go straight to the convertible and get another Britax boulvard.
Friday we were in a car accident and I had my 3 week old in the car with me Inow his boulvard clicktight. We were rear ended I was at an almost complete stop and they rear ended me going about 55 miles an hour. The seat didn’t move at all and my newborn was perfectly secure and perfectly safe and unharmed. I definitely recommend Britax to everyone.
